Between the 7th and 17th of April 2025, PathFinder CIC ran the pilot cohort for its new EMBARK programme - a hybrid work experience initiative designed to boost employability and skills for international students. The in-person sessions were hosted at The Exchange, University of Birmingham.

The programme welcomed 12 participants, offering them a simulated workplace experience through team-based case studies, hands-on workshops, CV reviews, and a live project brief from external partners, The Book Shelf.
Founded originally as a project under InStudents in 2023, PathFinder became a standalone Community Interest Company in 2025, dedicated to improving the journey of international students from university into careers in the UK. The EMBARK pilot programme combined employability training, visa support guidance, and networking opportunities into an intensive 9-day experience.
Participants benefited from sessions on project management, professional etiquette, teamwork, leadership development, and external consultancy exposure - all aimed at building confidence, portfolios, and career readiness.
Reflecting on the success of the pilot, Kritesh, Founder of PathFinder CIC, said:
“The EMBARK pilot has proven that when international students are given the right support, they don’t just thrive - they lead, they innovate, and they add immense value to local communities and businesses. This is just the beginning, and we are excited to scale this impact across the UK.”

External partner Ameesha, Founder of The Book Shelf, also shared her experience:
“It was truly inspiring to work with such a talented group of international students. They brought fresh perspectives, creative ideas, and a real energy to the business challenge we shared with them. Hosting the PathFinder EMBARK cohort has shown us just how much value international students can add to growing companies like ours.”
PathFinder EMBARK is run entirely by volunteers who dedicate their time to advancing PathFinder’s mission. The pilot tested the structure, content, and dynamics to ensure future cohorts can deliver maximum career support and impact.
